Creativity, Collaboration and community in novato

Students showcasing camp projects

The Marin Makerspace is a fantastic creative classroom in South Novato.  TinkerTech joined forces with the Makerspace during Spring break to offer a manufacturing Design Camp for ages 11-13.

Eleven students from across Marin spent the week taking on mini-challenges that taught them design and engineering skills – and gave them an insight into jobs in the manufacturing industry and what it is to be an entrepreneur.

Projects varied from designing a model sailboat to producing a laser-cut box to hold dog treats. This ‘dog treat box’ design challenge was created with the Marin Humane Society, based just up the road from the Makerspace. The beautifully crafted boxes shown here will be auctioned in the Woofstock fundraiser in May.

This was a great story of local small businesses, families, schools, non-profits, and national sponsors the NBT Foundation working together to create a really special week that these students will remember.

Congratulations to the students and a big thank you to TinkerTech teacher Ellie Buehler who led the projects, Makerspace manager Sara Bolduc, and the Makerspace WebStars, Marin County high school interns who mentor visitors to the makerspace.
