The Makers Of Big Make Marin
Phew! What an amazing five-day weekend at the Marin County Fair.
The first in-person fair in three years, this was a great opportunity for TinkerTech to join with other key maker educators in Marin to share the joy of making with everyone who came by our booth.
So many people were involved in making Big Make Marin happen.
A special mention to…
The Marin Makerspace where the idea for TinkerTech started back in 2014. Then, it was an Intel Computer Clubhouse on 3rd street in San Rafael run by John Macleod of New Media Learning who is the mastermind behind XRLibraries. At the time, the makerspace only provided programming for middle and high schoolers. After many weeks of parents asking for classes for their younger students, TinkerTech was started with a class for 7 students at Bacich Elementary. TinkerTech now runs year-round classes and camps with schools and non-profits, reaching hundreds of Marin students each year. The makerspace’s location is now next to the Hamilton library. Come check it out this summer at TinkerTech Design Camp in the Makerspace. Scholarships are available for this camp.
Sara Bolduc, program director at the Marin Makerspace, who expresses the joy of making and innovation through her teaching and own creative projects including the giant Makey Makey switch that powered lights in the Big Make Marin booth (see photo). Sadly, this is Sara’s last summer in the Marin Makerspace but her spirit of creativity lives on in Marin!
