making it Social with robots

Ever wondered what a dancing robot looks like? Well drumroll please and click to see a group of robots dancing (mainly) in sync, complete with flashing disco led lights and catchy music.

The project was the final activity for students at our Coding and AI camp at Hamilton Community Center. They had come up with the idea when learning to program Finch robots from Hummingbird Technologies which we have been testing out all summer.

Watching the group of 8 to 11-year-olds work together to see how they could manage to synchronize the dance moves was fascinating. Curiosity, problem-solving, patience, teamwork - and computer programming - all came together as the students choreographed and trouble-shooted the disco moves that made full use of the large community center space. The students were delighted, entertained - and rightly proud of their work.

It was a perfect ending to a summer full of STEM collaboration and creativity. Over 400 students attended TinkerTech Camps this year. We are so pleased to have had the chance to work with them and encourage everyone to hone a new skill or discover a talent through project-based learning.

Although that robot disco has well and truly wrapped, the fun continues with our year-round programming. Curious to find out more? Visit our Programs page for more info or reach out to us at hello@tinkertechcamps.com.
